I am in Myrtle Beach SC and I am looking for two things: 1) someone to look over my Hohner Tango VM and advise condition and any work that needs to be done and the costs of that work prior to making any repairs. 2) An accordion player near Myrtle Beach that teaches beginners. I would appreciate any suggestions on either or both points.

Thanks

Repair of accordions is tricky except for those with special knowledge,
of whom there are probably only a handful of people. most older
accordions need to be overhauled every 10 to 40 years or so, depending
on how much they are played and under what conditions, etc.

A piecmeal overhaul and spot repairs might not give a good result,
depending. Reed restoration can take many hours, cleaning re-setting
reeds in ree blocks, tuning, plus usually some mechanical repairs.

Amateurs attempting repair can cause irreversible damage. Generally one
should never buy an accordion in need of repair, because of the expense
and difficulty of getting it done.

I got this from a tech who's not in your area, but he recommended this
link to somebody who might be close to you:

www.aldimarco.com

I hope this helps.

The reason I said don't get it repaired, is that it would cost in the
4 figures to have it done properly, and people who would just tinker
with it for less, would likely do more harm than good. If it is
playable, he should just learn on it. From his post, he appears to be a
"mere" student.

I'll add that this is a very fine accordion, and should not be repaired
by just anyone.
